Reynaliz Herrera:Creator/Director/Composer/Script/Performer

IDEAS, NOT THEORIES, is a 45-50 min Percussion Performance Concert created by Reynaliz Herrera. Combining percussion music and theatrical elements, the performance feautures original music (written by Reynaliz) which explores the use of unconventional instruments such as: bikes, tap and body percussion, water, etc, and traditional percussion instruments such as marimbas and drums. All of the musical works are linked together through a storyline and original characters, making the complete performance a unique, quirky and creative artistic experience.

 

SYNOPSIS

Three magical creatures secretly inhabit a warehouse.  These creatures are awakened by a kid who stumbles into the room and begins to discover its sounds.  Once awakened, the magical creatures join the child as they go on an adventure of sound and music that can be created inside the room by using the objects in it.  By doing this, they discover the magical potential that the warehouse has. During their adventure other surprises come along…

 

BIO

IDEAS, NOT THEORIES, had its premier in Monterrey Mexico, inside the Festival de Musica Nueva 2012. (November 2012). Recent performances include:  featured with 5 performances inside The New York International Fringe Festival 2015, as well as at The Lower East Side Girls Club in NYC 2015, and at The New York University Day of Percussion (NYU/KoSA/HLAG) 2016. The show has also performed in Boston, MA at The Lilypad, The Middle East, The Democracy Center,  at Encuentro 5 (2013), and in Ottawa, CA at the National Arts Center (performing excerpts of Ideas, Not Theories), 2014. Future engagements include at the Boston Children's Museum (June 2016). The show was also the receipient of an Emergency Grant from The Foundation of Contemporary Arts.

"BICYCLE BEATS, is a 10-12 min performance of a solo percussion piece written for bicycle. Composed and performed by Reynaliz Herrera, the mini performance features different sections of music, each of them inspired by world rhythms such as Afro-cuban and brazilian, and some composition techinques such as polyrhythms. The piece is a through-composed work. Some theatrical elements are also featured."
